I loved this film! …but who doesn’t love a Mike Leigh film. The line that struck me, was said in the scene where Turner returns with his companion, Mrs Booth, to the photography studio to have a daguerreotype portrait of themselves made. Whilst posing for the shot, Turner says: “Soon painters will go about the world with a box, like a tinker, instead of a portfolio under their arms” This line seems applicable for art & design today too. I today’s ‘box’ is an iPad rather than the newly invented camera of Turner’s time, or maybe, I am simply a child of my time?
